Looking for a purrrrfect Saturday? Look no further than Caturdays at your local brewery!
Behold, appreciators of delicious craft beer and felines: HooDoo Brewing Co. is pleased to bring the global cat café phenomenon to Fairbanks on Saturdays. You guessed it — Saturdays will now be dedicated to cats.
Yes, that’s right, the brewery is bringing in dozens of cats and cute, little kittens from the local animal shelter. Patrons, animal lovers, and feline freaks can mingle, snuggle, socialize, and make a new 4-legged friend in the Taproom.
“We tested the concept early this year with great success,” Owner/Brewmaster Bobby Wilken said, “life today is so busy and hectic, so we feel drawn to provide an oasis of calm. We envision a place where you can order a beer, grab a cat and just pet your worries away to the soft sounds of a feline’s purr.”
“We are expecting a lot of people to just come play with the cats, make some conversation with them, and just indulge in kitty goodness.”
Expecting a crowd, HooDoo will section off parts of the Taproom based on various interests. The planned sections will be:
– Cougar Cave: a semi-private, dimly-lit tented off area for older, more experienced cats. These mentor cats are calm, love to cuddle, and share an air of wisdom with our beer savvy clientele. They may have lost a little spunk in their years, but they certainly haven’t lost their poignant whiskers or mesmerizing sandpaper tongues.
– Saucer Space: an area where patrons can sit with cats on the floor. The brewery will offer saucers of beer for $1, so visitors can immerse themselves in the environment by lapping up delicious beer like a cat. The cats in this area will have access to saucers of organic milk, creating a harmonious atmosphere akin to spending the evening with your favorite drinking buddy.
– Ragamuffins & Reggae: for the ultimate chill, visitors can vibe out to Bob Marley while hanging out with the cutest Ragamuffin cats. Knit hats with long fake dreadlocks will be provided – cats love those. A limited number of papasan chairs will be available, so plan to arrive early and stay a while. This area will be close to our food vendors for easy and frequent access.
“We are expecting a lot of people to just come play with the cats, make some conversation with them, and just indulge in kitty goodness,” Taproom Meownager Heather Kraemer added, “This has been my dream ever since coming back from Taiwan. I am so glad Bobby gave us the opportunity to provide some quality cat time with locals.”
And customers are looking forward to the change!
We asked regular Richard Hertz about the weekly event and he said, “I am obsessed with beer, and obsessed with cats, all sorts of cats – lounging cats, preening cats, snoozing cats, playing cats, looking oh-so-totally-cute-in-my-arms cats, so man, this is amazing!”
To kick it off, this Saturday April 2, proceeds from each beer sold will be donated to the Fairbanks Animal Shelter Fund…and that’s no joke. 😉
PROST!
